Oral Surgery

We are proud to offer a full range of oral surgery treatments to patients of Thistle Dental and other dental practices in North East Scotland.

As well as welcoming referrals from our nearby dental colleagues, non-patients can also self refer. It may be that you are tired of waiting for an appointment from the dental hospital or are suffering from dental pain and want help immediately. If so, please contact us.

We are very proud of our specialist oral surgery team, which includes Terry Lowe, who has worked in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and at the Albyn Hospital as a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery since 2003. 

He is joined by Archana Kavi who completed her MSc in Oral Surgery in 2014, making her the only dentist with postgraduate qualifications in oral surgery in Aberdeen. She also has many years’ experience of working in hospitals within the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Nerve repositioning may be required when placing dental implants into the lower jaw and bone augmentation helps increase the amount of bone available to support a dental implant.

Sometimes wisdom teeth can grow at an angle or get stuck and only partially appear causing severe pain or discomfort. Depending on the complexity of the problem the wisdom teeth may require surgical removal.

An apicectomy is a surgical option when root canal treatment has failed. Unlike traditional root canal treatment, an apicectomy is a surgical approach through the gum that helps save the tooth and prevent it from being extracted.
