Your patients will all have heard of dentures or will know of someone who has dentures, but knowing if dentures are right for them is another matter. As one of our most popular dental treatments, dentures work fantastically well and we recommend them as the best treatment for a number of our patients. However, before deciding whether they need or want dentures, it’s important they consider if dentures are the right choice.
Here is some information that your patients may find useful when making their decision.
What Are Dentures?
Dentures are a type of false teeth and they are specifically designed to look as real as possible, meaning it isn’t always easy to tell them apart from natural teeth. This is one of the reasons why they are so popular, as many patients don’t want others to know that their teeth aren’t completely natural. Dentures can be worn in place of a missing tooth, where teeth have been removed or where natural teeth need to be replaced. This means they are extremely versatile.
There are a number of benefits to choosing dentures. For example, the procedure is very quick and it’s a lot more affordable than dental implants. Plus, those who wear dentures can still benefit from a natural looking finish. Additionally, a lot of patients who are unable to have dental implants are still able to wear dentures. It’s these benefits that have made dentures one of the top dental treatments for those with missing teeth.
However, there are also some downsides to choosing dentures over other alternative dental treatments. Knowing and understanding these is a key part of deciding whether dentures are the right choice. For example, as they can move in the mouth, some people find dentures to be annoying or uncomfortable. Though, with a bit of time, this is something that patients will get used to. Furthermore, dentures do need to be replaced and this should happen around the five year mark. Though, by having them replaced, this does allow for any changes and improvements to be made.
