Traditionally, people with multiple missing teeth had two options: a bridge or a denture. Both of these solutions have their drawbacks. Bridges require the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to be irreversibly damaged and dentures can affect speech, the ability to eat and can feel uncomfortable and false.

Missing teeth can also be ageing because when teeth are missing the bone that held them in place can be lost, leading to a ‘caved in’ appearance.

It can be tempting to leave the odd gap or two if you have lost teeth at the back of your mouth but doing so can affect the way your teeth bite together and your ability to chew properly - not to mention the detrimental effect on your appearance.

Dental implants look, feel and function just like natural teeth

Placing a dental implant is surprisingly quick and painless. Tooth implants are substitute tooth roots made from titanium that are placed into the jaw, where they become integrated into the jawbone. They are then used to support a bridge or dentures and become a long lasting, secure fixture.

The amount of implants required depends on how many teeth you have lost. As a general rule we can 'bridge' between implants, so if you have four teeth missing in a row we could place two implants at each end and suspend two teeth between them. If you have no teeth at all, then it is possible to provide a new full set of teeth with just four implants.
